Use the built-in agent

The built-in agent routes requests through Recense — no API key required. Activate it once in Settings → Hosted agent; usage is metered against your plan's monthly allowance and shown in Settings → Usage.

How it works #

  • Same agent sidebar, tools, and capabilities as BYOK mode.
  • Provider and model selection is managed by Recense.
  • Usage is tracked in built-in agent tokens per month.

Setup #

  1. Open Settings → Hosted agent.

    Hosted AI needs your explicit consent before any request can send data to a model provider.

  2. Activate the hosted agent.

    Read the consent notice and confirm. You can withdraw consent from the same page at any time; hosted requests stop until you activate again.

  3. Optionally let it auto-apply low-risk prep suggestions.

    The same page controls whether low-risk Smart prep suggestions are applied automatically or left for your review.

  4. Choose "Hosted" in the agent panel.

    Use the route chip at the top of the agent panel. If Hosted is greyed out, the menu says why — for example, Work local is on or your plan doesn't include it.

  5. Start prompting.

    No key entry is needed. The agent has the same tools as with your own key.

Usage limits #

  • The monthly allowance varies by tier (Starter vs Pro).
  • Settings → Usage shows what you have used and what remains this period.
  • Each hosted run reserves its worst-case cost up front and is settled to actual usage when it finishes, so a run cannot overspend your remaining allowance.

When to choose hosted #

  • You want the fastest possible setup.
  • Team members should use the agent without individual provider accounts.
  • You prefer centralised usage tracking in Recense instead of across provider consoles.
