Getting Started

Getting Started

Get from zero to your first cross-tabulation in under five minutes. This page covers the minimum path — everything else is optional until you need it.

Getting Started

Sign up and open the app

  • Create an account at recense.ai. No credit card required for the 7-day trial.
  • Recense runs entirely in your browser. Nothing to install.

Getting Started

Import a dataset

  • Drag an SPSS .sav or CSV file onto the drop zone.
  • Your file is parsed right in your browser — survey data never touches Recense servers.
  • SPSS files import immediately. CSVs show a review step where you confirm column types.

Getting Started

Explore the dataset

  • After import, the Dataset view shows your variables, question groups, and raw data.
  • Check variable types, labels, and groupings. Fix anything that looks wrong here — it feeds everything downstream.

Getting Started

Build your first table

  • Switch to the Canvas view.
  • Drag a variable to Rows and another to Columns in a new table.
  • Your cross-tabulation appears instantly — all computation happens right in your browser.
  • Use the toolbar pills to add measures (percentages, counts), apply weights, or enable significance testing.

Getting Started

Set up AI (optional)

Open the Agent sidebar and choose a mode:

  • BYOK: paste your own Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, or Fireworks API key.
  • Built-in: use the hosted agent included with your plan.
  • MCP: connect Claude Code, Claude Desktop, or ChatGPT desktop.

What the agent can do

The agent can describe your dataset, build tables, apply filters, and interpret results.

Getting Started

Save your work

  • Recense autosaves to the browser every 30 seconds.
  • For portable saves, use the Project Manager to export a .recense file.
  • Cloud save is available on Pro plans.
